Here at Spring Haven we have two Scottish Highland Cows, Orville and Wilbur. Wilbur is the blond cow with upturned horns. They both love carrots, but be careful around the horns, the cows can knock them into things without meaning to. The cows are shaved twice a year to keep them from overheating in their thick coats.

Highland cows, also known as Scottish Highland cattle, are a breed of cattle that originated in the Scottish Highlands and the Western Isles of Scotland. They are one of the oldest breeds of cattle in the world, and are known for their distinctive shaggy coats, long curved horns, and friendly personalities.

Highland cows are medium to large-sized cattle weighing between 1,300-2,000 pounds. They have a unique appearance, with long, shaggy coats that protect them from the harsh Scottish climate, and long curved horns that add to their distinctive appearance.

Highland cows are primarily used for beef production, however our cows will live here for the rest of their lives. They are also popular as pets and for their ability to graze in harsh terrain where other cattle breeds would struggle.

In addition to their hardy nature and distinctive appearance, Highland cows are known for their gentle and friendly personalities. They are curious and intelligent animals, and are often used as therapy animals for their calming presence.

Overall, Highland cows are a unique and beloved breed of cattle that are appreciated for their hardiness, distinctive appearance, and friendly personalities. Whether raised for beef production or kept as pets, they are a cherished part of Scotland's cultural heritage and continue to be popular around the world.
